HELEN MCGLASHAN Helen Marie McGlashan was born May 15, 1922 in Abbey, Saskatchewan, to Gea and Eber Anderson. She passed away on November 7, 2009 at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 87 years. Helen spent most of her childhood in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. After graduating from high school she moved to Regina where she completed a General Business Course through the Reliance School of Commerce. One of her first jobs was with the Regina Leader Post. Over the next number of years Helen worked for various newspapers and advertising agencies. In 1951 Helen married Jack McGlashan, who was an army man. During their marriage they were stationed at various places. Helen put her office skills to use working for the civil service. Their final posting was Ottawa. Helen was widowed in 1967. Afterwards she moved to Winnipeg, where she lived until her passing. Helen had a keen sense of humor and a quick wit. She kept an interest in what was happening in Winnipeg and the world beyond. Throughout the years she made many life-long friendships, and was a great one for remembering occasions with a well appointed card. She had a great gift for listening, and took real interest in the welfare of family and friends. She will be missed. Helen requested there be no funeral service. A private family burial will take place at later date. Helen was predeceased by her parents Gea and Eber Anderson; her husband Jack McGlashan; her brother-in-law Charles Cooper; and her nephew Cameron Cooper. She is survived by her sister Ruth Cooper; her niece Kathleen Cooper; and great-niece Laura Tomilin, all of Kamsack, Saskatchewan. She is also survived by her step-daughter Diana Robertson (Don) of Edmonton, Alberta along with their children Ben, Holly, and Carmen. Helen's family would like to thank the staff of the Emergency Department at the St. Boniface Hospital, the staff on the 3rd floor Palliative Care Ward at the Riverview Health Centre and the friends that were there for her during her last days.
