Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLLOYD CAIRNS 1922 - 2009 The family wishes to announce the passing of Lloyd Cairns on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Concordia Hospital. Left to mourn is his wife of 62 years, Bertha, sons Barrie (Pat and family) and Dale, sister Ethel, brothers Jack (Fran), Elmer (Dorothy), sisters-in-law Noreen, Winnifred, Inez and Louise as well as many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Mildred and George, sister Bessie, and brothers Cecil, Ernie, Ross, and Ray. Lloyd was born in Glenella, Manitoba on August 7, 1922. He moved to Winnipeg at the age of 12 and attended Laura Secord and Gordon Bell Schools. As a youth he loved to play hockey and played well into his 40s. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. In 1947 Lloyd and Bertha Usher were married and had two sons, Barrie and Dale. Lloyd was a long time employee of Sherwin Williams and ended his career at Green Steel Industries. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #81. He enjoyed curling and curled with the P.E.L.C.C. till the age of 83. He then became an honorary life member. Lloyd will probably be best remembered by his co-workers and friends for his wit and humour. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lloyd's name to the Concordia Foundation, 1095 Concordia Avenue.
