JACK DUMANS It is with great sadness the family of Jack Dumans announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 96. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Mirdza, their children Peter, Dianne and Randy and three grandchildren Alison (Dave), Eric (Megan), and Glen. He is also survived by his two nieces and their families and relatives in the Netherlands. Jack was born in Winnipeg on August 20, 1913. He lived most of his life in Old St. Vital. He served in the Second World War for four years in the Netherlands and in England. After the war he operated a greenhouse in St. Vital and provided bedding plants for many in the neighbourhood. He loved bringing gardens to life and working outdoors. This led him to his longtime career as Head Gardener at Deer Lodge Hospital. He retired in 1978 but always kept busy travelling, tending his garden, taking his grandchildren on outings and keeping his home and families' homes expertly maintained. He was an excellent carpenter and no job was too big or small. Jack was quiet, thoughtful and respected by all who knew him. He was always there to lend a helpful hand. Jack's family would like to thank the staff on T4 Deer Lodge Centre for their dedicated care over the last 14 months. In keeping with Jack's wishes cremation has taken place and a family memorial gathering will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
