ALICE POITRAS It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alice Poitras on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at St. Boniface Hospital. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Anna and J-B Poitras, her sisters, Léonie Alary and Flore Ledoux and her brothers, Jack (J-B Jr.) and George Poitras. She leaves to mourn her sisters, Antoinette (Tony) Johnson (Vic) of Victoria, BC and Irène Pelletier (John) of Winnipeg, sister-in-law, Julie Poitras of Winnipeg, and many nieces and nephews. Born on August 13, 1913 in St. Boniface, Alice spent her early childhood on Masson Street, surrounded by brothers and sisters. She joined her sister Antoinette in Montreal in her early twenties and had a long career in communications with C.N. Upon retirement, she returned to Winnipeg to care for her aging father. Alice had a passion for animals and family members remember fondly her hobby of breeding miniature poodles and canary songbirds. A celebration of Alice's life will be held on Thursday, December 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 rue DesMeurons. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to all of Alice's caregivers including Staff at Thorvaldson Care Centre (September 2003 to November 2009) and St. Boniface Hospital (Dr. Margaret Brunt) through her last days. Those wishing to honour Alice's memory can donate to The Winnipeg Humane Society or C.N.I.B. DESJARDINS 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
