JOHN GEMMILL ARNOTT June 23, 1932 - December 8, 2009 Peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, John Arnott passed away with family at his side at the Portage District General Hospital, aged 77 years. In the days before his passing he welcomed many visitors and had a warm handshake and smile for everyone. John was predeceased by his parents John and Martha Arnott, brothers Bob and William, sister Shirley (O'Neil) and his second wife Greeta (nee Noordenbos). John is survived by his sister-in-law Helen of Winnipeg; brothers David (Lois) Arnott of Brandon and Donnie (Helen) Arnott of MacGregor, and his first wife Lorraine Arnott of Winnipeg; his nine children, Annette, Marni, Casey, Carole, Joanne, Susan/Saya, Guy, Victor and Robert, sixteen grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many friends and colleagues with whom he spent many happy times. John was born June 23, 1932 in Portage la Prairie, MB where he lived most of his life. John was a gifted musician who delighted family and friends with his talent for singing and playing guitar. He continued to play cribbage and follow the local sports teams. He was a pioneer of youth soccer in Portage, and an enthusiastic coach of youth sports. Visitation and viewing will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday evening, December 11, 2009 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place following the service at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, #65 - 275 Duke Ave., Portage la Prairie, MB. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Portage and District General Hospital for their care. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in John's memory to Portage Youth Soccer Association, 617 Mobile St., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3G5, attention Lynn or Palliative Care, care of Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524 - 5th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A8.
