NELLIE EMILY JENKEN (nee CAMPBELL) February 28, 1920 - November 26, 2009 With heavy hearts the family announces the passing of our dear Mom after a long struggle with lung disease. Nellie spent the last two years at Deer Lodge where she was loved and cared for by her wonderful nurses and the friends she made there. While at Deer Lodge, she enjoyed their entertainment programs, bowling and tea parties. She especially appreciated her many visitors but above all, her son Bill who faithfully came almost daily with Tim's. Nellie was born in Reedy Creek, Manitoba. Her parents were Maggie (nee Ducharme) and Peter Campbell from Kinosota. Peter passed away shortly before her birth from injuries he received in the First World War. When she was four years old, her mother married Peter's brother Bill, who always treated her as though she was his own daughter. They moved to Winnipeg where the family grew to include two brothers, Don and Murdoch. Mom adored her little brothers and they had a happy home filled with music, friends, many extended family members, Scottie dogs and good times. Nellie played the piano and guitar, Murdoch played the fiddle and Don played the bagpipes. Nellie faced and conquered many obstacles in her life. One of them included falling off a horse and breaking her back when she was in her late teens. She was told she would never walk again, but with her stubborn Scottish determination, she proved them wrong and went on to marry and have seven children. Mom's life revolved around her children and her strength, courage, and sense of humour carried her through many hard times raising her family. Over the years, Mom spent a lot of good times with her growing kids, their friends, and her grandkids, camping and going to hockey and baseball games, music festivals, the Highland Gatherings, and many weddings and parties. Her grandkids and great-grandkids always admired her sense of humour and spirit of fun and adventure. Those were good days. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Ted, her brothers, Don, his wife Frances, and Murdoch, his wife Bertha, and granddaughter Kelsey Jenken. She will be greatly missed by her children, Margaret Crossman (Allan), Frances Delannoy (Ben), Bill Jenken (Shirley), Dave (Kim), Lori Jenken (Rick), Daryl, Richard (Kathy); grandchildren, Sandy Fournier, Jamie Crossman (Sandi), Arlene Guerard (Rick), Sherry Giesbrecht (Dennis), Corinne Delannoy, Jolene Kantimere (Don), Scott and Kelly Jenken, Leeanne Buckingham (Matt) Christine Potterton (Ken), Alyson Keelan, Justin, Kelsey, and Carly Jenken. She is also survived by sixteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the nurses at Deer Lodge for the kindness they showed Mom, especially Sandy, Pauline, Ophilia, Shelly, Liselle and Darlene, to name a few. Also thanks to Annie Nowak, Eileen and Gertrude for helping Mom have some fun, and to all the other volunteers and aids who made Mom's life interesting and enjoyable. In accordance with Nellie's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment will take place at a later date at St. Vital Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Deer Lodge Centre Chapel on December l7, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Lunch to follow in the Auditorium, main floor, Deer Lodge. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted in Nellie's name for the Winnipeg Humane Society. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
