JOHN JOSEPH MLODZINSKI It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of John Mlodzinski, beloved husband, father, gigi and friend on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital at the age of 89 with family at his side. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sophie of 65 years and sons, Ken (Denise), Greg (Colleen), daughter, Marilyn (Darrell), daughter-in-law Sandi, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his son Conrad, brother Andrew and sisters, Annie, Katie and Mary. John was born on January 7, 1920 in Highland Glen, Manitoba on the family homestead and resided there all of his life. He spent his childhood helping on the family farm and in 1944 he married the love of his life, Sophie. John was a construction worker for many years until retiring in 1980. John loved his time spent at his cottage on Lee River. The cottage was a cherished summer gathering place for all of the family to enjoy. His favourite stories consisted of the endless hours spent fishing and hunting with family and friends. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing hockey. He was a faithful, lifetime parishioner of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek. He will be missed for his sharp wit, sense of humour, teasing and joking. Some of the happiest of times were when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren, who could always bring a smile to his face. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank John's homecare workers who made it possible for him to be at home and also to the doctors and staff at the Selkirk and District Hospital emergency ward for their care and compassion. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. and funeral service to follow on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cooks Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in John's memory. Dad has given us hope in that love will fill every need, faith to find our way, guidance to do what we feel is right and traditions to be passed down. We will all hold close to our hearts special memories of a caring, loving and generous person. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk.
