Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES ROMANIUK April 30, 1927 - December 14, 2009 James passed away very suddenly but peacefully at the age of 82 years. James will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his wife Mary of 57 years; son David (Svetlana) Romaniuk; brother Lawrence (Lilian); sister-in-law Georgina and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Lorraine; parents, Gus and Emily; brother Harry; in-laws, Mike and Anne Sumka; brothers-in-law, Sam and John Sumka; cousin Jim Ladoski. James was born in Riverton on April 30, 1927. At age 17 years he worked as a fish inspector stationed at George's Island, then for 16 years as a manager of The Sandy Bar Hotel in Riverton where he met his wife Mary. Also during this time they worked as a team to build their (farm) cattle operation. He loved to take good care of his animals and had a very strong work ethic his entire life. James was an avid gardener and enjoyed growing a variety of vegetables. Besides gardening, his main hobby was collecting antiques, smoking fish and different meats. He liked to share and give away his fresh garden vegetables. James was very generous and hospitable to visitors. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Riverton Community Hall. Interment will follow in Ledwyn Cemetery. Rev. Father Harry Chuckry will officiate. A very special thank-you to Dr. S.V. Patel for his many years of care, also to our family, friends, neighbours and the Arborg Hospital for all their care and compassion. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
