NICHOLAS KOLODY Nicholas Kolody was born December 19, 1913 in Bohdanivka, in the region of Ternopil, Ukraine. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 10, 2009 at Riverview Health Center. Dad was one of nine children, son of Michael and Sofie Kolody. He was allowed to accompany his parents and four much younger siblings to Canada in 1938. The family settled on a farm in Springwell, Manitoba in the Lac Du Bonnet area. Family and especially helping family was very important to Dad. Many parcels and letters were sent to The Old Country . Separation of family was very difficult for Dad and he dreamed and worked hard to reunite the lost generations. Dad moved to Winnipeg in 1942 and started a career at Swift's. What was to be a temporary job to save money for his new home on the farm lasted 36 years and a well deserved retirement. In 1943 Dad met Anne Kulachok, his ptashichka who could do no wrong. They married on July 29, 1944 and celebrated one of their greatest achievements, 65 years of marriage in 2009. Together they raised five children and formed a close and loving family. They were also blessed with five devoted grandchildren. Dad loved to spend time with his family. He had a beautiful singing voice and often regaled those around him with songs of his youth. He enjoyed many summers in his vegetable garden in Garson as well as many camping and fishing trips in Manitoba and Alberta. In his retirement, Dad could be found at any one of his favourite fishing spots and he was particularly proud of his numerous Master Angler walleyes. Nicholas is survived by his wife Anne, daughter Patsy / John Christie, son Stephen / Veronica, daughter Anne, daughter-in-law Susan, son-in-law Emile Dufault, sister Tillie Fosty and his five grandchildren: Taryn, Christine, Tricia, Stephanie, and Adam. Nicholas was sadly predeceased by his daughter Vera Dufault in 2005 and son Gerald in 2009. The family would like to thank the Homecare staff who provided exceptional care for Dad which allowed him to be at home with family. We would also like to thank the palliative care staff of 3 east at Riverview for their care and kindness during his very brief stay. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice. Vichnaya Pamyat
