THOMAS KANE It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Samuel Akerlind Kane on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the age of 83 years. Tom was predeceased by his parents Sam and Stella Kane, St. Vital; sister Joan Wylie (Howard) of Penticton, BC and brother Terence, of The Pas, Manitoba. He is survived by brother Bill (Bunny) of Okotoks, Alberta and sister-in-law Jean Kane of Winnipeg. Tom was born in Northern Ireland on April 20, 1926. When he was a year old, his family immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Tom grew up in St. Vital and attended Windsor School, Norberry School and Glenlawn Collegiate. He was in the Canadian Army from 1944 to 1945. He was in the Signal Corps, and was due to leave for Europe when the war ended. After the war Tom worked for Claydon Construction and Skills Unlimited for 22 years. He never missed a day of work. Tom faced many challenges in his life. Through it all, his faith in God never waivered. He was a kind and gentle person and will truly be missed by us all. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to Tom throughout the years. A special thanks to niece Tanice Kane and her family for the love and dedication to Tom over the years. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethania Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg. Interment to follow at St.Vital cemetery where Tom will be laid to rest next to his Mother.
