Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH (JOE) FINDLAY MCADAM BARON 1930 - 2009 Sadly on December 15, 2009 Joseph's (Joe) battle with Alzheimer's desease ended when he succumbed at the the Riverview Health Care Facility in the care of their wonderful staff. Joe was 79 years old. Joe was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, moving to Winnipeg as an infant where he spent the remainder of his years. He enjoyed a varied and fulfilling life and took great pride in his family and friendships. Joe was renowned for his firm handshake. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Irene and their children, Britta Spiring (Fred), Jeff Baron (Lana), Judy Soubry (Greg), and Kathi Shay (Tony). Also mourning Joe's passing are his loving grandchildren, Erika, Britni, James, Remy, Claire, Joseph, and MacKenzie Joe was an avid athlete and excelled in a number of sports including hockey, basketball, golf, track and field, lacrosse and a variety of others. He was a member of the Winnipeg Rosedales, the St Boniface Native Sons and the Winnipeg Monarchs all of which contributed to his success, eventually being inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a former member and Past President of Niakwa Golf Coutry Club and an active member of the Winnipeg Winter Club. Joe spent almost his entire career in the heavy equipment industry employed by Powell Equipment Ltd. Starting in the parts and service department, Joe rose to the role of General Manager. Upon retirement he directed his energy toward those less fortunate. He was involved with many organizations and charities over the years and was most fulfilled by his involvement with Winnipeg Harvest. Joe was also a major donor for the Canadian Red Cross. He was always on call. Irene and her family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Care Centre A1 ward as well as the Grace Hospital 5th floor for their loving care of Joe. Joe's grin was enjoyed be all. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 2 :00 p.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Boulevard at Dieppe Road, Winnipeg. Our condolences to Irene and family on your sad loss. Winnipeg will never be the same without big cousin Joe, a truly unique and caring individual.
