DONALD MCKAY GEMMEL Donald McKay Gemmel, aged 81, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2009, with his family by his side. Don was born on July 31, 1928, in Dauphin, Manitoba, son of the late Harry Gemmel and Stuart Fairbairn. He was married to Sheila Gemmel (nee Hughes) on March 3, 1962. Don, an insurance salesman for London Life for 33 years, was known and loved for his quirky humour and funny impressions, his love of nature, and his knack for being the best-dressed in any circumstance. He loved to fish, play golf and keep several cords of neatly chopped and stacked wood at his Falcon Lake cottage and at home to keep the home fires burning. Don was predeceased by brothers, Robert and John; sister Alison; and son David. He is survived by sister Barbara Thompson of Guelph; his wife Sheila Gemmel; and children, Bruce Gemmel, Donna Youngdahl, Brenda Haklik (Donald Haklik) and Tracie Gemmel (Mark Cohen); daughters-in-law, Stephanie Gemmel and Gloria Kirouac, as well as 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
