MABEL MARIE BREZDEN Mabel Brezden passed away, peacefully in her home, on Sunday, December 20, 2009 with her loving husband and family by her side. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 57 years, Harry, her sons Gary (Sigrid), Brent (Lynn), Mark (Tracy) and her daughter Pat (Don) Battellino along with her grandchildren Kristin, Tyler, Hilary, Garrett and Taylor. Mabel also leaves behind her sisters Rose, Anne and Sylvia, her brothers Bert (Valdene), Don (Linda) and her nieces and nephews. Mom will be missed by her many friends and neighbours. Mom was born in Dauphin on November 3, 1931. She met her husband in 1948. They were married on July 31, 1952 and after several years in Dauphin, decided to settle in Winnipeg to raise their family. Mom was a devout Catholic who was active in the Catholic Women's League at St. Joseph's Parish for many years. We give our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and aides under the Palliative Care Program. During Mom's final weeks at home, they provided us with much needed support, compassion and understanding. Also, thank you to all the staff on Unit 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital for your care and support. We wish to thank Father Bohdan Lukie for his comforting presence while faithfully visiting Mom. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mabel's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. I remember my grandmother as the sweetest lady. Greatest cook ever...don't tell my mom. She was loving, devoted, and in general a happy woman to be around. I will miss her and fondly remember the times I had with her. - Posted by: Tyler Brezden (Grandson) on: Feb 08, 2013

My first memory of Mrs. Brezden - she will always be Mrs. Brezden - was her quiet strength - and, of course, I was scared of her! We were 10 - over 40 years ago - and it was one of those magical warm spring evenings following a Winnipeg winter - the late sixties - and she was trying to get little 'Marky' to sleep. Brent and I were playing outside and making too much noise - as we so often did - she told us to "be quiet". We listened! Mrs. Brezden, we will miss you. - Posted by: Cecil Lyon (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2010
