Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS BEVERLY SCOTT It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Douglas Scott on December 20, 2009. Douglas was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lylene Scott, his brother Gordon Scott and sisters-in-law, May Scott and Ruth Jacobson. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Eileen and his children, Lylene (Les), Cathy (Bruce) and Grant (Roslyne), his five grandchildren Adam, Jeremy (Kyla), Jaime (Tyler), Scott and Andrew; as well as his great-granddaughters, Zoe, Sydney, Ava and Paytyn. He also leaves a brother Frank Scott, sister in-law Noreen Scott and brother-in-law Alan Jacobson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Douglas was born on November 18, 1929 in Sheho, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg with his parents as a child. Dad had a successful career with the Manitoba Telephone System. He began serving a seven year apprenticeship and worked his way up from trouble shooting the rack , right up to management in the Engineering Department. Dad retired from MTS in 1988 and continued working with the Telephone Pioneers and served as president of the Pioneers for two years. Although he spent 42 successful years with MTS, his passion was the military. He joined the militia when he was 17 and worked his way through the ranks. He served as a Colonel and Commanding Officer of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles from June 1972 to May 1975; as well as Deputy Commander of the Prairie Militia Area. He also served as President of the Canadian Infantry Association. Dad was very involved in many Military functions including attending a dinner with Charles, Prince of Wales and a Royal funeral at Windsor Castle in England for the Duke of Gloucester. Dad enjoyed going south to Florida every winter to visit his parents, golf and tour many of the interesting and historical cities in both Canada and the United States. Dad and Mom also took trips overseas to England, Ireland, Scotland and Europe. Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling, but their favourite trip was always to Kelowna to visit Grant and Roslyne. Dad was ever the handyman, with the standing joke being if Dad can't build it or fix it, it can't be done! He enjoyed building his home in Anola as well as helping Les build his home and Bruce with re-inventing family rooms, knocking down walls etc. He was ever so proud of Grant as it appears he passed his talents on to him! Dad enjoyed spending time at Betula Lake where he taught all three of his kids to water ski. The family has unlimited memories of travelling on summer vacations, pulling our trailer all over this country and the U.S. Dad enjoyed driving Grant crazy singing songs at the top of his voice with his girls on our trips as well as playing games and always on the alert to pull over because Cathy or Sam was going to be sick! Dad enjoyed the Friday night square dancing group with their many friends as well as trips to the beach with the same friends and all their kids. Dad was a kind and generous man. He was well thought of by his friends and colleagues. He treasured every moment of his life with our mother and they both demonstrated how to live a healthy happy marriage. He was a devoted husband and a fabulous father. Dad was one of a kind and he will be dearly missed by family and friends. We Love you Dad! The family wishes to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home as well as Drs. George and Joshua and the staff of the Grace Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada, (In Memory), 4211 Yonge St. Suite 316, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9 (www.Parkinson.ca). Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
