JOHN HORASKI Peacefully, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease, it is with deep regret that we announce the sudden passing of John Horaski, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Fred Douglas Lodge Nursing Home just 22 days prior to what would have been his 90th birthday. Remaining to forever cherish John's memory are his devoted wife of 61 years, Stephanie; children Janet Armistead (Al), Jerry Horaski, Terry (Joanne) Horaski, Diane (Walter) Cwik, John Jr. Horaski and Sandy (Ed) Wdowiak; grandchildren Kenny (Allison) and Sean Armistead, Jason, Jordan and Breanna Horaski, Samantha and Alyssa Cwik; great-grandchildren Vanessa, Garrett and Tyler Armistead. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary; brothers, Mike, Henry, Joe and Steve; sisters, Helen Azarjanski and Annie Uhrin; and son-in-law Ken Armistead. Dad was born in Cloverleaf, Manitoba on January 11, 1920 and spent his childhood on the family farm. He enlisted and served in the Canadian Army from June 1941 through June 1946. Theatres of service included Canada, United Kingdom and the High Seas. After his discharge in 1946, Dad's career was spent in the Hospitality Industry. He retired in 1986 and spent many years creating with wood. He enjoyed building miniature doll houses and log cabins. His creations were so realistic that hobbyists contracted him to build specific items for their private collections. Dad loved fishing and camping. He was always at one with nature. At Dad's request, a private Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street. The family would like to thank all who attended. A special thanks to the staff on Oak and Evergreen units at Fred Douglas Nursing Home for all their care and compassion throughout his time there. In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, memorial donations in John's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba 10 -120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2.
