SONIA LESLIE OMER April 8, 1967 - December 21, 2009 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, wife and friend, Sonia Omer (nee Bobei) on December 21, 2009 with family by her side. Sonia was born April 8, 1967 in Dauphin, MB to Vivian and Wes Bobei and spent the first eight years living in the farming district of Keld. Her family moved into Dauphin and Sonia attended school there until moving to Sioux Lookout, ON in 1975. After Grade 8, Sonia moved to Thunder Bay, ON with her mother and sister Lisa. She graduated from Westgate Collegiate in 1985 and soon after moved to Winnipeg to be with her mother who was ill. Sonia worked for North American Life and Great West Life. She enjoyed her work and loved the challenges. During this time, she met Alexander Omer, who became the love of her life. After her father's own diagnosis of cancer, Sonia spent the next several months visiting and caring for him until his passing in July, 1992. Her passion for helping others inspired her to return to school in the health care field soon to graduate and become a health care aide. Soon after Sonia and Alex were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Laci Jordan Omer who was born January 12, 1999. Sonia then took another hiatus from work, as she cared for (Vivian) her mother until her passing in April, 2001. Immediately following the birth of their second child, Shaquil Alexander Omer, December 26, 2001, Sonia was diagnosed with breast cancer. The next seven years of her life was an uphill battle of continual chemo treatments, surgeries and more chemo treatments. Sonia loved life and lived it to the max. She was an active member of her children's school parent council, her son's hockey team and full time chauffeur and cheering squad for her nephews when they were in the city playing hockey. Her passions included cooking, fishing, shopping and travelling, which often went hand in hand. During the past seven years Sonia travelled with her family and friends to the sunny south, the great white north, and last but not least a trip of a lifetime to Disney World. Sonia was predeceased by her father Wes Bobei and mother Vivian Bobei. She is survived by husband Alex, children Laci, Shaquil, and stepdaughter Yasmine Ross, sisters Cindy Dean (Dennis), Lisa Husak (Tim), nephews, Jean, Chris, Ryan, Justis and Dylan. Sonia was a dedicated wife, loving mother and the best friend a person could ever have. We have been blessed to have her touch our lives. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mosaic Funeral Chapel, 1839 Inkster Blvd. Interment will take place in Dauphin at a later date.
