MEYER SILVER July 16, 1919 - December 18, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Meyer Silver on December 18, 2009 at the age of 90. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Roslyn, his children Vivian and Lewis (Zeigen), Rochelle and Mati (Gamliel), Neil and Jemmie Silver, grandchildren Chen and Yonatan, Tiram and Reesa, Stav and Jonathan, Matan, Aaron, Joel and Daniel, great-grandchildren Oren, Ahva and Lilah; siblings Bertha Feldman, Doris and Morris Bronstein, Morris and Dorys Silver. He was predeceased by his parents Abraham and Sarah Silver, Belle and Hy Brod and Joe Feldman. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Meyer served with distinction in the Canadian army for four and one-half years during the Second World War. After graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba, he worked for the City of Winnipeg's Property Tax Assessment Department for the next 33 years. Meyer exemplified the spirit of Tikun Olam , the unceasing obligation to improve the world. He was active in the Jewish and wider communities, volunteered for 25 years for Meals on Wheels, made hospital visits and was a lifelong donor to the Canadian Blood Services. He volunteered for the Jewish Child and Family Service, the UJA and UIA. He was a member of the Brandeis Zionist Lodge, the Saturday Night Discussion Group, first president of his synagogue, Chavurat Tefila and was on their Board throughout the years. He lived an unusually active cultural and social life, jogging, hiking, cycling, enjoying the theatre and symphony, and travelled throughout the world. He was an active member of the Rady Centre. Meyer was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was respected for his modesty, humbleness and gentleness. Even when hospitalized, he gained the esteem and appreciation of the medical staff and caregivers at both the Seven Oaks and Grace Hospitals. Special thanks to Doctors Selaman, Patel, Bhanot, Wong, and Bovell, and the nurses and aides for their extraordinary kindness and care. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 20. Pallbearers were his grandsons Tiram, Matan, Jonathan, Aaron, Joel and Daniel and honourary pallbearers were grandchildren Chen, Yonatan, Stav and Reesa.
