Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER WILLIAM MELNYK 1935 - 2009 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter William Melnyk on December 21, 2009 at the age of 74. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marilyn, son Jeff and daughter Janice Willows (Brent), grandsons Christopher and Michael Willows, brothers David (Diane) and Donald (Valerie), brother-in-law Brian Wilkinson (Kathy), many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dmytro and Pearl Melnyk. Walter was born on February 10, 1935 in Winnipeg. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn, the love of his life. Walter devoted 33 years to Education, retiring in 1990. During his career, he held various positions, the last 11 years as Superintendent of the River East School Division. Walter's greatest joy was his family. He also loved spending summers at their Lac Lu cottage. His other interests included music and theatre, photography, computers, and traveling. He spent many years of unselfish service in his church, Rotary and various professional associations. His contributions will be sorely missed. Marilyn and her family would like to thank Dr. Pat Harris and the staff on 4D South at Grace Hospital for their care and compassion. Interment has taken place. A celebration of Walter's life will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at John Black Memorial United Church, 898 Henderson Hwy.
