DONALD NORMAN MCDONALD Peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Halton Hills Extendicare, in his 94th year. Donald was born on June 5, 1916 in Rockwood, Manitoba and lived on the family farm at Gunton until coming to Sudbury then Hamilton, at that time, he became a member of the Armed Forces during the Second World War. After leaving the Army, he purchased a farm not far from Attercliffe. A second family farm was purchased near Holstein, ON in 1958. Once leaving the farm, Donald, semi-retired, liked to take care of his roses. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1954 and remained voluntarily active preaching in the communities where he lived. Donald was predeceased by his mother Olive in 1962; his father Donald in 1965; his sister Josephine in 1975, Evangeline in 2008 and Katie, his brothers Morgan in 1984; George in 1993; Leslie in 2002; Maurice and Frank. Don lost his loving wife Myrtle (Pauline) of 61 years in July 2005. Don is survived by his sons Ralph of Barrie and Leslie of Varney and his daughter Ruth Gilchrist and husband Richard of Georgetown, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters-in-law Edna Robins (nee Angle) of Niagara Falls, ON., Violet McDonald of Teulon, MB. And Lillian McDonald of Winnipeg, MB. They along with many friends and associates will miss his stories of long ago. Cremation has taken place. Private arrangements and interment will take place at a later date in Mount Forest, ON.
