MORRIS (BIG MO) MCCORRISTER Rising White Crane Thunder Bear June 12, 1933 - December 23, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, papa, great-papa, brother, uncle and friend Morris McCorrister of Peguis First Nation who left us to be with the Creator at the age of 76 years. Left to cherish his memories is his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Annette; daughter Jan (Ron); grandson Kyle (Candace), great-grandchildren Carter and Kaylee; granddaughter Janelle and great-grandson Anthony; son Greg (Judy); grandson Ryan (Claudette) and great-grandchildren Chante, Jersey, Gina and Jordan; grandson Grant and granddaughter Nicole (Will) and great-grandson Matthew; daughter Sheryl (Blair); daughter Denise (Darrell); grandchildren Germaine (Chris) and Devon; daughter Heather (Jim); granddaughter Erin. Also left to mourn his passing are his sisters Marlene Feenstra of Winnipeg; Bernice (Arthur) Macholz of Winnipeg; Doris (Ken) Sinclair of Peguis; Sheila (Jan) Wolinski of St. Andrews; brothers Harvey (Doris) McCorrister of Hodgson; Walter (Olive) of Peguis and Robert McCorrister of Winnipeg; his mother-in-law Ruth Sinclair of Peguis; his brothers and sisters-in-law Frank (Florence) Wilson, Irvin (Dolly) Wilson, Annie (Lloyd) Bear, Merle Wilson all of Peguis; and Marcie McCorrister of Winnipeg. Morris was predeceased by his parents George (1986) and Mary (1977) McCorrister; brothers Jason (1982) and Wilfred McCorrister (2003) and a foster sister Harriet Thompson (2005). Dad was a wonderful, strong and caring father. In his earlier years, Dad worked in Northern Manitoba in road construction, Pine Falls Logging, farming, the restaurant business and finally retirement. He was a strong believer in education, returned to school and successfully obtained his Grade 12 in 1973. Dad supported and had instilled this value in his children and grandchildren. One of Dad's passions and enjoyment was to be with his family and mom's wonderful home cooking. He loved nature and being outdoors, tending to his yard, garden and flowers, his birds and sitting in front of a bonfire enjoying a sealer of tea. Dad loved to read his bible with mom daily. His greatest enjoyment came when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered his life. Dad had a great sense of humour which gave him the ability to appropriately nickname his grandchildren (Piddow, Nelly-poo, Doudes, Beaker, Nikki-poo, Sugar Bear, Little Devs and Erinnny-poo) and great-grandchildren (Chante-poo, Little Jersey and Mashue). He also had nicknames for many relatives and close friends. His loving sense of humour will be missed, the sharing of fond memories and stories of the past will never be forgotten. Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at St. Matthews Anglican Church in Peguis, MB. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, at St. Matthews Anglican Church with Rev. Barry Bear officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the St. Matthews Anglican Churchyard Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Peguis Church. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Grant and Kyle McCorrister, Devon Bear, Keith and Stan Sinclair. Honorary Pallbearers will be his Special Friends: Clifford and Rachel Cook, Jerry Olson, Norman Thomas, Lawrence (Squawk) Asham, Sarah Stevenson, Alma Matheson, Kenny Sinclair, Tom Cochrane Sr., Joe Prince and Andy (Tootie) Beck. Crossbearer will be Greg McCorrister. Treasurers in heaven Matthew 6.19-21 Don't store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead, store up your treasurers in heaven where moths and rust cannot destroy them and thieves cannot break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to family, relatives and friends, Peguis Chief and Council, Fisher Ambulance Service, Percy E. Moore Hospital, Peguis Home Care Staff, R.C.M.P. and the Health Sciences Centre staff for their assistance with Dad's care over the past years.
