RUNA BEATRICE PALSSON After a long and courageous battle, it is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of my wife, our mother, Amma and Lang Amma, Runa Palsson on December 28, 2009 at the age of 82 years at the EM Crowe Memorial Hospital in Eriksdale, MB, surrounded by family and friends. Runa is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 63 years, Steini, their children Joe (Peggy), Betty (Ken), and Patsy (Doug); grandchildren Michael (Linda), Coreena (Keith), Debbie (Danny), Collin (Danielle), Rob (Laura), Brent (Jen) and Chad (Jenn) and 13 great-grandchildren; her brother Tom Barnes and sisters Thelma Anderson and Rae Sigurdson. Runa was predeceased by brothers Bill, Leo, Allan, Lloyd and Claude and one sister Runa in infancy. Runa was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 8, 1927. Upon finishing school, she enrolled in a two year program in psychiatry. When she finished the course the Second World War was almost over. She married Steini when he returned from the war in 1945 and they went farming. Education was extremely important to Runa and she continuously strived to better herself through learning, writing and music. She was a Lang Amma when her life long dream of flying became a reality when she went sky diving. Runa loved to write stories, songs and poetry. Many people enjoyed listening to Runa sing and play guitar in church and kitchen parties at the Palsson farm. She loved music and a good debate. Runa loved living on Springwater Farm at Stone Lake where she could enjoy her flower gardens and privacy, but could still whip into town whenever she wanted. Runa's family feels incredibly blessed that we were able to have her home for Christmas. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Lundar Lutheran Church with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. Interment to follow in the Lundar Municipal Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the home care staff, Dr. Burnett, Eriksdale Personal Care Home and hospital staff. If friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Lundar Lutheran Church, Box 216, Lundar, MB R0C 1Y0 or to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
