MABEL MAUREEN SELF (nee NIGHTINGALE) September 1, 1947 - December 26, 2009 Suddenly, on December 26, 2009, our Mom passed away at the age of 62 years. She is survived by daughter, Jodian (Dale) and grandchildren Jay-Ar and Annika, daughter Kileen and grandchildren Sarah, Sean and their father, Graham. Mom is also survived by three sisters, Esther (John), Elaine (Gordon) and Linda and their families. Predeceased by husbands, Glen Self (1999) and Ken Johannesson (2009), parents Eric and Ida Nightingale. Mom worked in various industries. Most memorable to her were 10 years with the Salvation Army. Mom was an avid reader and volunteer. Most notably with the CNIB and over 20 years with Jewish Child and Family Service. Following her wishes, she has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Friday, January 8, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Weetamah Corps, 324 Logan Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancercare Manitoba or the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba. I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.' And he replied, 'Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'
