TINA TOEWS (nee GIESBRECHT) February 20, 1927 - December 31, 2009 After a courageous battle with cancer and a short stay at Riverview Health Centre, Tina went to her heavenly home on a blue moon New Year's Eve. Tina was a strong yet very gentle, patient soul and a loving mother. She suffered nobly, gave generously of herself and always strove for excellence. Tina was born in the village of Sommerfeld, Manitoba to Abram and Katherina Giesbrecht. She was the third born of nine children who all helped run the family farm near Winkler, and who played music together. They remain a very close family to this day. In her twenties she married John Toews and raised a family in Winnipeg. Later John moved to Bethania Care Home with Alzheimer's disease and Tina moved into Bethaniahaus next door. She visited and cared for John every day. Tina especially loved gardening and music and during the last several years, she volunteered at Bethania as a pianist. Tina will be lovingly remembered by her children Marilyn (Ted), Vern, Barb (Frank), Lynda (Gary); grandchildren, Ryan, Tim (Laryssa), Jeremy (Lori) and Greg (deceased); and great-grandchild Savion. She will also be missed by a large extended family and many friends. Tina was predeceased by her husband John Toews in 2005 and her grandson Greg in 2002. We are deeply grateful to all the medical staff who were involved in Tina's care, as well as for all the generous support and prayers of family and friends during her illness. We invite family and friends to a celebration of her life to be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethania Personal Care Home Chapel, 1045 Concordia Ave., Winnipeg, with interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing with a service will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at Wiebe's Funeral Home in Winkler. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision Canada, 606 - 228 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3B 1N7 or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of your choice.
