VIVIAN DORIS GLASS February 1, 1920 - December 27, 2009 Vivian passed away peacefully in Winnipeg on Sunday, December 27, 2009. Born in Boissevain, Manitoba, she grew up and lived in Deloraine until 1939 when she moved to Winnipeg to obtain her teacher's certificate. Vivian was predeceased by her parents Percy and Nora Glass, brother Noble and brother-in-law Ted. She leaves to cherish her memory brothers Lloyd (Maureen), Laverne (Geraldine) and sister Lavina. Vivian was loved dearly by her nephews and their spouses Michael (Amber), Eric (Cindy), Robert (Trish), Steve (Dawn), Ralph (Karen), John (Julia) and Billy (Jennifer), and by her grand-nieces and nephews Jenna, Chris, Kyle, Troy, Marlo, Teddy, Alexandra and Evelyn. Vivian's teaching career began in 1940, in the farm country of Langvale with eleven students in nine grades at a one-room schoolhouse. From there she moved to teach in Rathwell and then on to Winnipeg in 1944, to Victory School in West Kildonan. In 1947 Vivian began teaching in Pine Falls, where she readily took to the community life, made many friends, and enjoyed golfing and curling. She returned to Winnipeg in 1959 to teach in the St. James area, at Woodhaven, Bannatyne, Arthur Oliver and Allard Schools. Vivian loved teaching, and her fond wish was to help her students enjoy learning and do their best. Vivian was an ardent sports fan. Her favourite colour was blue, as in Blue Bombers and Blue Jays. She hardly ever missed a game on television, often joined by family and later also her kitty Trixie. Her students might have been surprised to hear Miss Glass cheer or scold, throw it! , he was safe! , or oh darn at the screen. A family memorial service was held on January 5, 2010 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Retirement Community and Beacon Hill Lodge for their kindness and care. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
