LORNA MAY DYCK On January 3, 2010, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, Lorna May Dyck (nee Derksen), aged 49, passed away to be with her Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our beloved Lorna leaves behind Allan, her loving husband of 31 years; her children Rory (Christine), Ari, and Loralee; her mother, Rose Adeline Derksen; her brothers and sisters, Marlene (Neil), Helen (Wes), Ron, and Murray (Jessica); and her numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Martin Derksen, and her sister, Diane Doerksen. Lorna lived a blessed and full life that reflected her strong faith in her heavenly Father. Despite losing her leg to cancer when she was 16, and surviving another fight with cancer three years later, Lorna's life was characterized by a deep joy, which she spread to all those around her. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, and took great satisfaction in fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a full time mother. Lorna was also very involved at Grant Memorial Baptist church, where she loved to spend her time in serving and fellowship within her church community. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Grant Memorial Baptist Church, 877 Wilkes Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I remember Lorna with one leg smiling with incredible joy....I shook my head inspired so thankful for her and Allen. - Posted by: David Epp (Friend) on: Mar 02, 2020

  • I just finished reading the article Lorna wrote many years ago about her strong faith and how much she loved her family. It's through stories like hers that I too am growing in my relationship with the Lord. I look forward to meeting Lorna in heaven someday. - Posted by: Sandy Martin (N/A) on: Oct 12, 2017

  • I was her cousin, so I saw her at family gatherings. We were kids then. Even at that early age,I was impressed with her zeal for life. Later in my life I would get updates on Lorna. The loss of her leg, her marriage, further battles with cancer, her love for the Lord. To Al and the family these words of encouragement: This is a terrible valley to pass through, but one day we will stand on the mountain. And together with Lorna,we will sing God's praises for ever and ever. Amen. Love and prayers, Alvin Derksen, LaBroquerie, Manitoba - Posted by: Alvin Derksen (Family) on: Jan 06, 2010
