WILLIAM HUNTER BROWN 1915 - 2009 Peacefully, on December 28, 2009, at the age of 94, Dad passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by daughters Peggy Hanuschak and Jean Skromeda, granddaughters Lynne and Lisa (Joel), and great-grandson Damien. He was predeceased by his wife Elinor (2007) and brother John (1992). Born in Vermilion, Alberta, Hunter spent the rest of his life in St. Vital. He met Elinor as a teenager at St. Vital United Church and they were married there in 1942. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June, 2006. After their daughters were born, Elinor and Hunter moved to River Road and spent many happy years there until the late 1970s. They then moved to Elinor's childhood home on Nichol Avenue where they spent time in their backyard pool and garden with their granddaughters. In 1990 they moved to a condo on St. Anne's Road and after Elinor's death in 2007, Hunter moved to Catherine Place. Hunter followed in his father's and uncle's footsteps as a market gardener. He was also sales manager/warehouse manager at Gardeners' Sales (now Manitoba Vegetable Marketing Board) until his retirement in 1979. He was affectionately known as the Squash King . Hunter's lifelong passion was gardening, both at his own homes and his daughters' homes. We gratefully benefited from his green thumb until he was 90. Elinor and Hunter travelled frequently with friends across North America and overseas and enjoyed winters in Hawaii, Texas and the Caribbean. Hunter especially loved his poker club with a group of lifelong friends. He was a selfless man of great character and will be sadly missed. There will be no formal service. A private family memorial will take place in the spring.
