THOMAS EDWARD ATKINS It is with heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of Thomas Edward Atkins on December 23, 2009 in Toronto. Tom was born on June 9, 1955 in Winnipeg. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Thomas James and Olive May Atkins, siblings Linda (Bert) Smith, Susan (Neil) Ingram, Chris (Sandra) Atkins, nieces and nephews Eric, Alan, Michael (Kendra) Smith, Brian, Heather Ingram and Sarah Atkins. Tom will be remembered for his constant smile, unique laugh, and caring nature. He always listened to and was respectful of others. He was well respected by colleagues and friends. Through his active involvement he maintained close friends through his work, Dance Club Milonga badminton club, condo board, and the People's Church. Although he made many friends in Toronto, he always enjoyed getting back to Winnipeg to celebrate special occasions with his family; especially Christmas with his nieces and nephews. He loved to travel and made trips to Cuba, Hong Kong, Argentina, and Portugal, just to name a few. Tom received his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Manitoba in 1977 and his CA designation in 1980. His career started with Price Waterhouse and later The Bay in Winnipeg with whom he transferred to Toronto. He spent the last 20 years with the Bank of Montreal, most recently as Assistant Manager in the Finance Department. His plan was to retire in Toronto. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint).
