MURIEL ALFREDA SIMPSON (nee WANKLING) February 21, 1921 - January 8, 2010 After a long and happy life, Muriel (Freddie) passed away peacefully at West Park Manor on January 8, 2010 at the age of 88 years. Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Les, her son John, and brothers, Claude and Dick. She is survived by her son Robert (Jane), and daughters Jane Weiler (Gerry) and Betty Nelson (Keith), grandchildren Joanna and Ginny Weiler, Chris Simpson, Gillian Muise (Steve), David Simpson (Shereese), Angela Simpson, Josh and Brittany Nelson and great-grandchildren Ben and Laura Muise as well as sisters-in-law Mona Wankling, Mildred Bowie, and Claire Lloyd (Ralph). She will be lovingly remembered for her kind-heartedness, humility, cheerful sense of humour, and devotion to her family and friends. A lifelong resident of Winnipeg, she was a long time member of Westworth United Church and very active in the U.C.W. and C.G.I.T. After having worked for many years at the University of Manitoba, she retired in 1986 from the Alumni Association. Muriel spent many happy hours playing in her bridge clubs with longtime friends, some going back more than 50 years. She loved her Bombers and had a passion for lively political discussions. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of West Park Manor. A private family service and interment will be held. Muriel will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
