ROSIE AKKAGALAK Rosie died at her home December 26, 2009 after experiencing health problems. She was in her early 60s. Born in the former North West Territories Rosie lived there until a tragic incident required her to leave her family and people to receive medical care. Canadian author Farley Mowatt wrote about this aspect of Rosie's life in Chapter 10 of The Desperate People . After she recovered Rosie went to live with the foster family of Walter and Kathleen Andrechuk in Fort Garry. She was a happy child with an ear to ear smile. She is survived by two foster sisters, Brenda (Bill) Hewitt and Lorna (Garth) Muir; a foster brother Ed Ladouceur, and a foster nephew David Muir. In later years Rosie enjoyed her volunteer work at Agape Table and the friends she made there. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 15, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Agape Table, 175 Colony Street.
