Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMELVIN (MEL) LAURILA Melvin (Mel) Laurila passed away in the early morning of Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Pine Falls Hospital. Mel leaves behind his wife Elizabeth (Liz), of 39 years; children Leila (James) and Lyle (Wendy); grandsons Austin, Declan, Tannon and Hunter, and brother Edwin, also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Hjalmar, mother Lillian, brothers Sulo and Elmer, and sisters Helen and Hilda. Melvin was born June 30, 1938 in Dauphin, MB. He lived in Meadow Portage for a short time when his family moved to Pointe du Bois. Mel spent most of his childhood hunting and fishing. At age 16, Mel moved to Powerview with his mother after the passing of his father. Mel started working at the paper mill shortly after. He worked at the mill for 42 years. He enjoyed a good joke, a good game of cards and the company of good friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Great Falls Hall in Great Falls, MB, Isobel Fiola presiding.
