STELLA (ESTELLE) NELSON On Sunday, January 10, 2010, Stella (also known to many as Estelle) passed away peacefully at the Parkview Place Personal Care Home (also known as Central Park Lodge) in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 88 years. Stella was a mother of two, grandmother of four, great-grandmother of nine, and had one surviving sister. Remaining to forever cherish Stella's memory are her daughter Emily (Malaniuk) Yurchak; son Jason (Amanda); children Jake and Sophie; predeceased daughter Sylvia (Malaniuk) Horishney's children, Paul (Lisa) and children Sarah, Danielle, Jayna and Kayla; Wendy Horishney (Terry Garton) and children Josie, Johnathon and Jessica, and Michael Horishney; mom's youngest sister Nellie Balak and many other family and old as well as new friends. She was also predeceased by her brother Peter Bidoczka; second husband Gordon Nelson; mother Mary (Skocylas) Bidoczka; sister Alice Swereda; father Mike Bidoczka, and first husband Alex Malaniuk. Stella was born January 8, 1922 in the Rossburn Municipality, Manitoba. Her father Mike Bidoczka was brought to Canada in 1901 as a child from the Ukraine with his father and mother and five siblings, and had created a home in the Rossburn area and a sister for older brother Peter. Mom most enjoyed cooking, listening to fiddle music, dancing when she was younger, and most of all being with her family and friends. She was a kind heart and loved by the many people who got to know her. A private family service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Parkview Place, which has been home to Stella for the past eight years. Special thank to the 9th floor nurses and medical staff who have taken such good care of mom, and especially this past week. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations in Stella's memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6, Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or the Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1P6.
