CLEMENTINE (KLEMA) HAPPYCHUK It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Clementine (Klema) Happychuk, on Friday, January 8, 2010. Mom was born July 21, 1911 in Niewra, Borszczow, Galicia, (Austria-Hungary), Poland to Louis and Josephine Chikoski (nee Stepchuk). She arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada at the age of two on November 11, 1913 aboard the vessel Ryndam with her mother who was 27 years of age to join her father. Her parents were pioneer settlers in the Lonesand / Sandilands area. Mom leaves to cherish her memory daughter Anne Staska, son Bob (Sherry), daughters Jean Fraser and Elizabeth, 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren who will treasure memories of their Baba. She leaves to mourn sister-in-law, Gabrielle Chikoski and many nieces and nephews and a life-long friend, Anne Serafin, whose parents were also pioneers in the Lonesand area. She was predeceased by her husband, John, November 29, 1987, daughters Mary Berezowski, Olga Chukra, Nellie Balcytis, and sons-in-law George Fraser, Victor Balcytis, Richard Staska, Peter Berezowski, and Bill Chukra. Grandsons Georgie, Terrance, Ian and granddaughter, Julie, brother, Marion, and sister, Elizabeth Frederickson, also predeceased her. Mother was a very resourceful mother and housewife providing and caring lovingly for her family who were her pride and joy. She enjoyed gardening (especially growing tomatoes and flowers). She could tell the difference between Ontario and Manitoba blueberries! Mother took pleasure in all aspects of life with interest and exuded appreciation for nature and animals. The family extends appreciation to W.R.H.A. homecare workers for their care over the years which allowed her to remain at home. Sincere thanks to St. Boniface General Hospital Emergency staff and doctors and staff on 6A for their care. Pallbearers will be Ron Berezowski, Pat Aitken, Brian Staska, Karen Debenedictis, Neil Chikoski and Andy Chukra. If so desired, donations to a charity of one's choice may be made.
