Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEPHANIE LEWICKI It is with great sadness that the family of Stephanie Lewicki announces her passing, peacefully on January 12, 2010, at the age of 86. Born in Winnipeg on May 24, 1923, Stephanie Monzik grew up in the city's Brooklyn neighbourhood. In 1950 she married Ernest Lewicki at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. They bought a home in Winnipeg's North End and lived there for 30 years before moving to North Kildonan in 1980. For the past two years she lived at Concordia Place, where she was happy and very well-liked. As well as family camping trips to Banff, Yellowstone, Ontario and Northern Manitoba, she had the opportunity to travel to Europe and Ukraine several times. She was also active with the Ukrainian Women's League at St. Nicholas Church, where her husband was longtime choir director. With her active circle of friends she bowled, curled and went fishing in her younger days and played bridge regularly for close to 50 years. She started working for the Winnipeg School Board in the 1940s and continued to work in the school system, with time off to raise her children, until her retirement in the mid 1980s. After working at several schools throughout the city, she ended her career as head secretary at R.B. Russell School. Stephanie was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was always happiest with family around her. She loved to entertain and to cook traditional Ukrainian food in large quantities. Food was love right until the end and she always had a snack ready to give visitors. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie in 2008, as well as her brother Danny, and is survived by her sister Mary Vickers in Dallas. She leaves behind sons Tom (Cindy), Bob (Krystina); and grandchildren Evan, Stephen and Miranda. Stephanie was in relatively good health until just a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed Christmas with her family around her. With her sudden passing she will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Concordia Place, whose care and friendship she greatly appreciated. As per her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. Donations in her memory can be made to Concordia Place, 1000 Molson Avenue, Winnipeg MB, R2K 4L5; C/O Monica Sawatsky.
