Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GILBERT BLAQUIERE It is with sadness that the family of John Gilbert (Gib) Blaquiere announces his passing on January 12, 2010 at the Health Sciences Centre, at age 71. He is survived by his mother Hazel McNulty; son Kimm Blaquiere, daughters Cheryl (Randy) McAuley and Barbara Murray, brothers Lawrence (Dolores) and Roland (Janice), and sister Beatrice Blaquiere, six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John and brother Darold. John was born on April 18, 1938 and grew up in Transcona. In his earlier years he worked for CNR as a Carman apprentice and later as an Overhead Crane Operator. For many years he lived in Vancouver where he worked for CP Rail as a Trainman/Conductor. After a long battle with cancer and other health issues, he was put on disability retirement and eventually returned to his roots in Winnipeg. At the time of his passing, he lived at East Park Lodge and appreciated the company of those who looked out for him. Anyone who knew John well, was aware of his passion for new technology and anything computer related. He was always willing and eager to help anyone with computer problems. He was a pleasant and well liked individual, and will be dearly missed. A special thank you to the staff of CancerCare, and to the staff on 7H at Health Sciences for their compassionate care in his final days. At John's request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place, as well as a private family gathering. Interment will take place at a later date.
