ELIZABETH CARLYLE TONER (nee SHAND) May 31, 1954 - January 14, 2010 Peacefully in the loving embrace of her family, Liz ended her battle with cancer at the Victoria General Hospital. Liz was a tenacious, fiercely determined and brave woman, and she tackled cancer with these same attributes. Liz's greatest joy was when she became Grandma to Nathan and Andrew. Liz grew up in Pointe du Bois, MB, and as a young adult moved to Winnipeg, and started her family. She later attended Red River Community College where she graduated with a diploma in Business Administration, and was employed by Red River College until her illness. It was at Red River College that she met her husband John and found much loved dog Charlie. Liz enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, bingo, bowling at Windsor Lanes and having a laugh while playing cards. Liz is predeceased by her dad, James Shand and mother and father-in-law Jean and Howard McDonald. Liz is survived by her husband John McDonald, children Jennifer Toner and Joseph Toner, grandchildren Nathan and Andrew, mother June Shand and Uncle Charlie Shand, brother James Shand (Jamie, Patrick), sisters Barbara Stasiuk (Steve, Rebecca, Melissa), Cindy Braun (Art, Stephanie, James, Amanda) and Crystal Scotland (Darin, Katie) as well as sisters-in-law Dorothy Lowe (Jeff) and Carol Crerar (Don, Michael, Cynthia and Ashlyn). Memorial service will be held in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 1531 Pembina Highway on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba in memory of Liz.
