LEONARD (LEN) LESLIE BOYD LUMSDEN February 24, 1918 January 15, 2010 Peacefully, on Friday, January 15, 2010, Len died at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 91 years. As he joins his beloved wife, Kay, who predeceased him in 2000, Len will be greatly missed by daughters Bonnie Lynn and Maureen; Grandson Ken (Donna) and Granddaughter Cheryl (Clay); Great-Grandchildren Lucas, Julia, Brian, Cole and Kate, as well as his nieces, nephews and friends. Len lived almost all of his life in Winnipeg, except for a sojourn in Ottawa during his later business years. He was born and raised in Elmwood and later lived in other areas of the city. He and Kay had many friends and enjoyed both square dancing and ballroom dancing. Later, they loved golfing together, especially in the years immediately surrounding his retirement. Len spent his entire business career in the grain industry, starting on the floor of the Grain Exchange, followed by a successful career at Federal Grain, and with the Federal Department of Agriculture. An Honorary Life Member of the Manitoba Club, he spent many Saturdays with his friends and associates, happily playing snooker and organizing tournaments. For many years he was also active in the Every Second Tuesday Breakfast Club which gave him the opportunity to stay connected with old friends from Elmwood and East Kildonan. Len loved visiting with family and friends, early morning golf games, bridge and card games of all types and above all, a good laugh. He will be remembered with love. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue with Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin presiding. A private family interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Home, Manitoba Home Care and the Grace General Hospital-3N for their excellent care of Len.
