VIOLET MARY MITCHELL (nee Woodward) September 14, 1923 - January 17, 2010 It is with much sorrow that we announce the passing of Violet Mary Mitchell (nee Woodward) - our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, sister, and aunt. Predeceased by her husband Roy in 2007, brother Allan, sisters Myrtle and Dorothy. She will be dearly missed by her children: Bryan Roy Mitchell (Peggy), Thomas Owen Mitchell (Gayle), and Carol Joy Lapointe (Robert), sister Evelyn Sharpen of Kenora, Ontario, grand-children: Val McInnes (David), Tracey Sareault (Pierre), Terry Mitchell (Leola), Marc and Gene Lapointe. She also leaves 12 great-grand-children and numerous nieces and nephews. Violet was raised on the family farm in Lavenham, Manitoba by Thomas and Mildred Woodward. She chose the life of an Armed Forces wife when she met and married Roy Edward Mitchell in 1943. Their Armed Forces friends became family when Vie and Roy were so far from home - relationships that would follow them throughout their lives. Vie was a dedicated, loving mother, and a wonderful cook. As a long time member of Crestview United Church, Mom shared her faith with her children and grandchildren, teaching us that God is ever present in our lives. Her example of love and living was her dedication to God and a gift to all of us. The family would like to thank Rev. Beth Rutherford for her care and support, Homecare, staff and friends at Sturgeon Creek 1, Dr. Van Horne for his many years of care, the Grace Hospital staff, especially Dr. George, Dr. Joshua, nurses Marna, Tanya, Carly, and Tracy. A celebration of Violet's life will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba with Rev. Beth Rutherford officiating. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish, donations may be made to Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba, R2Y 2H5 or a charity of your choice. To those I love and those who loved me. When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You must not tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many beautiful years. I gave to you my love, you can only guess How much you gave to me in happiness. I thank you for the love you've shown me, But now it's time I travel on, alone. So grieve a while for me if you must, Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It's only for a while that we must part, So bless the memories within your hearts. I won't be far away, for life goes on. So, if you need me, call and I will come. Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near and if you listen with your hearts, You'll hear all my love around you, Soft and clear; and then when you must Come this way alone, I'll greet you with a Smile and say, Welcome Home.
