DOUGLAS ARMANN SOLVASON Douglas Armann Solvason of Winnipeg, MB passed away peacefully Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Riverview Health Centre after a battle with bone and lung cancer. Born in Woodlands, Manitoba, October, 15, 1947, to Armann and Marie Solvason, Doug was an avid sports enthusiast and participant. He excelled at his first love - hockey where he went on to win numerous titles while playing hockey for Warren, MB. After high school, Doug achieved his electrical ticket and per his friends and colleagues became one of the best electricians in the province. He worked at McCaine Electric Ltd. in his early years, before working for the Province of Manitoba as a Technical Engineering Officer for the Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation Accommodation Services Division. Doug was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time spent at the cabin at Booster Lake that he designed and built with the help of his father, Armann and father-in-law, Jim. His passion for fishing and hunting showed and he loved the annual Booster Lake Fishing Derbies that brought together everyone for fishing, fun and food. Doug is survived by his wife Arlene, his sons Matthew and girlfriend Anabela, Byron and girlfriend Michelle, his daughter Dayna and her husband Tim and their two children Keianna and Eden; his brother Art and his children Anders and Kelsey; his father Armann; his sister-in-law Brenda, her two children Ryan (Lauren) and Jayme (Cam); as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Doug was predeceased by his mother Marie, brother Donald, Uncle Russ, Uncle John, Uncle Kari, Uncle Grant, Aunt Ruth, and Uncle Ab. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctor on 3E at Riverview Health Centre for their caring of Doug. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Thomson In The Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Doug to CancerCare Manitoba / Riverview Health Centre.
