JOHANNA E. BLUNT Johanna Blunt passed away peacefully on January 25, 2010. She is survived by one brother, Vernon, two sons, Rick (Pam) and Bryan (Edna), five grandchildren Stephanie (Adam), Stephen (Ashley), Matthew, Warren and Marney and one great-granddaughter, Evian. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick in 1992. Born on Christmas Day in Edenburg, MB in 1916, Mom was the fourth child in a family of eight and was raised in Steinbach. The thrift and labour required to maintain a large family in the Depression years forged in her a strong work ethic, selfless concern for others and a devotion to family that characterized her whole life. Though she and Dad married in 1942, Mom was by herself until 1946 while Dad was overseas in the Army. Prior to and during the war years, Mom had a variety of jobs in Milton, ON, Steinbach and Winnipeg which resulted in lifelong friendships. In 1952, Mom used her natural gift with children to establish a private kindergarten which she maintained for 15 years. The 1950s and 1960s were a very busy time for her as she taught, raised a family and built the family cottage at Star Lake. Mom naturally drew people to her. Even in old age, people would comment on how they appreciated Mom's spunk, her down to earth forthright personality and her infectious sense of humour. These character traits were persistently dominant and shone through her daily pain and struggle as she coped without complaint, with severe crippling arthritis. Mom had a deep faith conviction and saw it as important that her sons had spiritual training. We will be eternally grateful to Mom for her consistent example of the importance of a right relationship with God. Johanna Edna Blunt lived for 93 plus years and she lived them well. She served God faithfully and made a difference in the lives of her family and others. Her earthly journey is now over and she is pain free and in the presence of her Saviour at last. Many thanks to the homecare staff at Stonewall Lion's Manor and the staff at Stonewall Hospital and Betel Personal Care Home. A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mennonite Central Committee.
