Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM EDWARD BEDDINGTON June 20, 1947 - January 28, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce that Bill passed away from congestive heart failure at the age of 62. He was a devoted husband to Darlene for 42 years. He is also survived by his two sons: Ted, wife Pauline and grandchildren, Bill, Jay and Paige; Michael, wife Denise and grandson Nicholas. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Ruth Beddington. He grew up on Riverwood Avenue in Fort Garry. In 1972, Bill moved his young family to Transcona. Later, a summer cottage in Matlock became like a second home. He joined the North Kildonan Police Department on December 8, 1966 as a cadet at 19 years of age. He became a Constable for the City of St. James Police Department in September 1968 and then amalgamated with the City of Winnipeg Police Services in October 1974. He retired in March 1997 after 30 years of service. He spent many years in the Traffic Department at the Public Safety Building where the phrase If Beddington yells at you he likes you was coined. After retiring, his goal was to be a stay at home house husband. After buying a new vacuum and organizing his closet, he discovered it was a daily ongoing job and it wasn't for him. So he went to work for Piston Ring delivering parts out of the Nairn Avenue store. He loved the job - his heart didn't. Not one to sit around and feel sorry for himself. He often said I have a life to live and I'm living it . He could be found at J.C. Custom Fiberglass doing what needed to be done at the shop. Bill was a dedicated member of the Elmwood Legion #9 for the past 30 years having held numerous positions on their Executive Committee. He was a loving, dependable husband, father and grandfather and although often stubborn and mostly ornery, he was one of the greatest men you could ever know. He will be extremely missed. At Bill's request, no funeral will be held. A Celebration of Life at Elmwood Legion, 920 Nairn Avenue, will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
