WILLIAM (WILLY) SPEIDEL It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Speidel, at Concordia Hospital on Thursday, January 28 ,2010, after a long battle with complications due to diabetes. Born December 14, 1934, in Winnipeg, Willy was raised in the North End attending Margaret Scott School. He worked as a delivery driver for Brother's Bakery until gaining employment at CNR in 1966, where he worked as a carman until retirement in 1995. After retirement, Willy took up a flyer route, which he enjoyed very much. He reluctantly gave it up when he was unable to walk well anymore. Willy travelled with his wife and children, visiting his home country of Austria. He also travelled to Russia, Scandinavia, Holland, the U.K., Fiji and Hawaii, but his favourite was California, USA where he returned year after year. Willy also faithfully donated his blood to Red Cross for over 30 years receiving awards for his contributions. He is survived by his loving wife Pat; children, Grant and Shannon (Michael); grandchildren, Ryan, Wesley, Brittany and Kaitlyn; brothers, John (Pauline) and Wally (Aida); many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Catherine; his father John; sisters, Rose and Christine; brothers, Fred and Henry. Viewing will be held 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, February 1 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St. with the service terminating at the church.
