WALTER DIACZUN It's with heavy hearts we announce that our father Walter passed away. Left behind to cherish their memories are his three daughters Karen, Beverly (Stephane) and Pamela (Kevin), his grandchildren Dannielle (Darren), Nicole (Andrew), Stephanie and Devon and his two great-grandchildren Jane and Trey, sister Olga, sisters-in-law Stella and Charlotte as well as many nephews and nieces. Walter was predeceased by his parents Anna and Daniel, brothers Stephen and Fred, sisters Julianna, Rose and Min. Walter was a North End boy whose persona was larger than his five foot two height that earned him the title of Big Wally . He tried his hand at horse racing, butchering, soldering and finally returned back to Winnipeg after the war to meet and marry his beloved Princess Dorothy. Settling in East St. Paul to raise his three daughters Walter became a Machinist for C.N. Railway. Like his father and two brothers Walter made the railway his life long career until he retired in 1982. He loved to show off his retirement caricatures, cribbage board, miniature train and nickel plated injector to all that visited. To him it wasn't the presents, but that enough people liked and truly cared for him. Family and friends were the most important things. Vacations with relatives in Thunder Bay, all night penny poker nights, the pumpkin giveaways and traveling to Mexico, Hawaii and the New England states with friends were just few of Walter's favourite things. Walter was proud of his grandchildren and spent quite a few days with them at Tinkertown. When they came for breakfast there was grandpa frying up the bacon and serving it with a coke. Walter was married to Dorothy for almost 50 years until her death in 2000. Not long after Walter became blind and faced many new challenges. However, it never stopped him from meeting new friends at Heritage House or making you laugh at Riverview. He could talk about current events, sports and had a memory that would constantly surprise you. At the local legion Walter not only did his share of dancing and drinking, but could be seen helping with fireworks, barbequing buffalo burgers and delivering a mountain of coleslaw. Thanks to Ted White last year Walter proudly stood to receive his medal for 50 years of service to Branch 215. A Service to Commemorate our Father's life will be held at Glen Eden Memorial on Friday, February 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Reception Centre. Special Thanks to the staff at Riverview, especially Maureen for the extra time and effort with our father. Walter was very happy living there and would appreciate your donations be sent to Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 Love You Bye Grandpa Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
