Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD (JERRY) GREVSTAD Peacefully, with his family by his side at Bluewater Health on Sunday, January 31, 2010, Gerald Jerry Grevstad, in his 80th year. Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife and partner Lea in 2003. Jerry was the proud father of five: Cara (John) Loncar of Toronto; Krista Grevstad of Vancouver; Peter Grevstad of Toronto; Andrea Nicefield of Sarnia; and Melissa (Tom) Dillon of New York. Loving grandfather to Allegra, Jack, Austin and Paige. Jerry built a very full life in the Sarnia community. He taught at Lambton College for 25 years, and made lifelong friends during his teaching career. He helped to found the Lambton College Retirees' Club and was happily involved with that group. He was also a willing supporter of many different causes in the community. Dad loved nature and thoroughly enjoyed his pets, his garden and his pond. He was an avid, skilled golfer who will be missed by his many golfing buddies. Jerry had a lifelong love of swimming and spent early years as a lifeguard with the YMCA. He also loved to read and could always recommend a good book. He faithfully attended Sacred Heart Church. Dad was a special neighbour and will be fondly remembered and missed by his good friends in the neighborhood, both human and animal. Jerry was the second youngest of nine children; he was predeceased by his parents Anna and Peter, his brothers Oscar, Dale, Arthur, Harold, Melvin and his loving sisters Alva and Doris, who raised him. He is mourned by his dear friends and relatives, Neil and Theresa Katner, Fr. Columba McManus, Jean Grevstad and his surviving younger brother, Bill Grevstad of Edmonton. Jerry was a favourite uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews on both sides of his family; they are too numerous to mention here but they will all remember him for his constant love and kindness. Special thanks from Jerry's children for the love and support shown to us by Mum and Dad's circle of friends yesterday, today and tomorrow . Thanks also to everyone at Bluewater Health Norman Site especially Aurie, Bill, Terry, Cathy, Cheryl, Jessica, Sandra, Ilyene, Dr. Cheong, and Dr. Campbell for the genuine care, kindness and comfort extended to Jerry and his family in his final days. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 5 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, ON. Prayers will be offered at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m. at SACRED HEART CHURCH, 1465 Lecaron, Sarnia. Friends are invited to join together to remember Jerry at a luncheon at The Smith Family Centre following the service. Cremation will follow. Dad will be interred in his rightful place beside his beloved wife Lea - they are together again. Flowers gratefully declined by Jerry's family. If so desired, donations may be made to The Inn of the Good Shepherd in Sarnia or to the Sarnia Humane Society with thanks from the family.
