ALPHONSE CECHVALA February 18, 1932 - February 1, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alphonse Cechvala on Monday, February 1, 2010 at Ste. Anne Hospital. Alphonse was born on February 18, 1932 in Korytne, Czechoslovakia and he settled in Canada with his family in 1938. Alphonse married Edna, his soul mate and life long partner of 47 years in 1962. Alphonse farmed most of his life and loved spending much time outdoors at the lake, or just relaxing in the backyard with family. Alphonse was a quiet, gentle man who enjoyed the peace and serenity of nature. He was a man of many talents. He was a skilled mechanic, competent carpenter, and a capable plumber. He was custodian of Windsor Park United Church for 18 years, a job in which he took much pride. One of Alphonse's greatest pleasures in life was being surrounded by his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his wife Edna, his children, Alan (Tracey), Scott (Rachelle), Sandra (Rob), five grandchildren, Lauren (Kyle), Amelie, Jessica (Marcel), Amber, and Fenway, great-granddaughter, Colbie, brothers, John and Frank, sisters, Annie, Ethel and Mary, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Elizabeth Cechvala, in-laws, Arthur and Jessie Young and brothers, Joseph and Cyril. Some people make the world more special just by being in it. We will miss you very much. The world will be a different place without you here. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul de Moissac, Dr. Rosalie Pelissier, Ste. Anne Hospital staff, Sister Irene Rioux, CancerCare doctors and staff, Father Legal, Diane Reid and all our family and friends for your wonderful compassion and support. We could never have got through this without you. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB with Diane Reid officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. If people so wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ste. Anne Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba or Windsor Park United Church Lift Fund.
