Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE MEDWAY May 4, 1948 February 1, 2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, husband, father, Gigi and brother, George Medway at the age of 61. George is survived by his mother, Elsie, his wife of 40 years, Claudette, his two daughters, Laura and Karen (with son-in-law Cam) Watt; his two grandchildren, Jessica and Jordan Watt. He is also survived by his sister, Eleanor, brother-in-law, Ray Frey (with wife, Trish Sol), his Uncle Bill and Aunt Shirley Christie, Aunt Marge Krestanovich along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Milen, his father and mother-in-law, Andy and Madeleine Frey. George was a Norwood boy and attended schools within the area when he was not at the Red Top. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Following his graduation, George began his career in the insurance industry at Great West Life. With Monarch Life/North American Life he specialized in group product sales. George loved his NAL group office. He often reminisced about the Fun Days where everyone from the office came out to Gull Lake for a day of games, food, drinks and good times. In 1997, NAL got bought out by Manufacturers' Life and that is when George moved to Blue Cross as Director of Sales and Marketing. He retired five years later. Because of the insurance industries conventions and conferences, we travelled to many places around the world. There are so many fond memories of these trips it is hard to select ones to talk about but it would be hard to beat our tour of the Coliseum given by our special guide, Bill Carey. As much as George loved his career, his immediate and extended family were the most important part of his life. George and Claudette's parents instilled the importance of family gatherings and dinners that this was a way of life for George. The more family and friends he had around him the happier he was. This is especially true of the weekends at the family cottage at Gull Lake. He also enjoyed taking his family on trips. Not only with immediate family but there were several trips with larger extended family and friends such as our trips to Disney, Jamaica and the Dominican. George's grandchildren filled his heart. He just couldn't get enough of them. He was never very sports oriented but thanks to Aidan O'Brien, George took up golf during his years at Blue Cross which lead to the decision to purchase a home in Phoenix where George and Claudette planned to retire during the winter months. In keeping with George's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held Monday, February 8 at 12:00 p.m. in Centro Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Avenue. There will be a couple of planned speakers but we will also have an open mic for anyone who wishes to say a few words. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 or to a charity of your choice.
