NELLIE POLUHA Peacefully, with family by her side, Nellie Poluha passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Holy Family Home, aged 93 years. Nellie was born and raised in Glenella, MB on November 15, 1916. She cared for her parents after they retired from farming and relocated to Portage La Prairie. After her parents passed away, she moved to Winnipeg, married William Poluha and raised a family. Nellie was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Andrew in Winnipeg and generously volunteered her time at the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, Red Cross and Holy Family Nursing Home. Nellie will be remembered for her resilience, independence and commitment to family and her faith. She is survived by her son William and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Nellie was predeceased by her husband William; her parents Harry and Katherine Zdan; sisters, Anne, Mary, Victoria, Kay, Eva, Pauline, Doris; and brothers, Peter, John, William and Michael. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 10 at Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Andrew, 160 Euclid Ave. and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, also at the Church with Fr. Leonard Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, 4355 Main St., Winnipeg. Special thanks to Dr. Andrew Cooke of CancerCare Manitoba and the health care team of St. John's North at Holy Family Home for providing Nellie with exceptional care.
