Date of Passing: Feb 07, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN JASCHINSKI His family is saddened to announce that John Jaschinski passed away in his sleep at home early on Sunday morning, February 7, 2010, at the age of 86. Wife Emily, daughter Diane Lehmann, son-in-law Mark Lehmann, and cherished grandsons Daniel and Matthew will lovingly remember John. John was born in Kaltenbrunn, Germany (Silesia) in 1923. He grew up working on the family farm with two brothers and a sister, and was apprenticed in a wine import/export business. After the war, sent as a refugee to West Germany, he lived and worked in Bielefeld. In 1951, along with his mother and sister, he came to Canada with $14 in his pocket and the drive to succeed in his heart. Starting in the dining car of the CN, he gained cooking skills and met wife, Emily. He then operated restaurants in Winnipeg including Al's, the Woodsworth Building Cafeteria, and the brand new Air Canada Building Cafeteria. His greatest pleasure was seeing happy, satisfied customers enjoying his food. Despite hard work and long hours, he enjoyed every minute of these years. John had an amazing memory and still could - and would - tell stories with great detail. His life provided much story material. Grandpa John so enjoyed these past years with his grandsons Daniel and Matthew. The swimming pool was always ready! He never missed a Blue Jays game with Emily or a Vikings game with Diane, and Mark was a ready ear for his stories. John had a strong faith in God and was content with his life. He worked to provide for his family and we will always remember his generosity and life lessons. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. Auf Wiedersehen.
