JACK WHITEHEAD Sadly we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jack Whitehead on Friday, February 5, 2010, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his son Ian (Brenda) and his daughters, Lynda (Jim), Cathy and Janice (Mark). He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Carrie, Christy (Dave), Nicole and Mathew (Robyn); great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Nicholas and Joshua. Jack was predeceased by his wife Marie; his brothers, Frank, Ernie and George and his granddaughter Lindsay. He was born in Winnipeg on July 3, 1921 where he lived all his life until his retirement in 1986 when he moved to Matlock. He enlisted with the Air Force in 1939 and was sent to England as an aircraft mechanic and he continued to serve in this role until he returned home in 1945 and was discharged. He met Marie, the love of his life, and after it was determined that she could make lunches, they were married on November 26, 1948. Jack and Marie shared 57 wonderful years together. He loved to spend time with family and friends and maybe play a game of cards. Lately he loved to spend time with his great-grandchildren and they loved to sit on his lap and have him read to them. Jack was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion having served as a past president at the Sir Arthur Currie Branch. Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at the Winnipeg Beach Legion at a later date when all the family can be present. Thank you to Dr. R. C. Patel and the staff at Gimli Hospital for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
