Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH KOSTIUK July 22, 1910 - February 6, 2010 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved brother and Uncle Joe on February 6, 2010, at the Gimli Community Health Centre. He will be deeply missed and his memory will be forever cherished by his brother, Stanley Kostiuk; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Kostiuk-Wityshyn and Olga Kostuik and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Joanna Kostiuk; his seven sisters: Emily Paleshnuik, Mary Samos, Kathleen Russell, Caroline Wasylowski, Jean Leskiw, Helen Turcan and infant sister Jean; his five brothers: Mike, Rudy, Walter, Louis and Robert. Uncle Joe was born in Malonton, MB on July 22, 1910 where he received his education. He lived there until he joined the army and served overseas in the Second World War. After he returned from the war, he worked at various jobs usually in the food service industry. No matter where he was working he always returned to the family homestead to help his brother Mike. His faith was foremost in his life. He demonstrated his strong commitment to God by attending Divine Liturgies regularly by serving as a cantor and by singing in the church choir. After he retired at the age of 65, he spent much of his time caring for family members. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling, gardening, nature and spending time with family and friends. He was active and independent until the age of 98 when a fall limited his mobility. Until his final day, his mind was sharp and his memory was remarkable. Uncle Joe was special to all who knew him. He loved and was proud of every member of his family. With many tears and much laughter, our family has come together and we have struggled to find the words to describe what a rare and beautiful man our Uncle Joe was. He lived to the age of 99 years and there is no one who can remember anything but kindness, extreme generosity, smiles and laughter from him. His quick wit, warm smile and his humble and gentle disposition were unlike any other. The mere mention of his name always brought and will continue to bring a smile to our faces. Uncle Joe experienced much joy and had survived many hardships over the years. He reacted to every event in is life with grace, dignity, gratitude and faith. We will be forever grateful for the wonderful memories he left us. Thank you to the staff at the Gimli Betel Home for the care provided to Uncle Joe for the past nine months. Prayers will be said on Friday, February 12, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon. The funeral service will be held at the Holy Trinity Church in Komarno at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010. Interment will be at the St. Mary the Protectress Cemetery in Malonton, MB. Rev.
