He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Kathryn, his son John Michael, daughters Katie (Rob Macdonald) and Jillian (Jim Hamm), and his four precious grandchildren, Zoë, Olivia, and Hazel Macdonald, and Andrew Hamm. He will be fondly remembered, especially by his many nieces and nephews. John was born in north end Winnipeg and attended St. John's Technical High School. He served on the boards of a number of arts organizations, including the Canada Council of the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council, Prairie Public Television, and the International Peace Gardens. He was President of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, and was a governor and then president of the Winnipeg Winter Club.
